I’ve been waiting a long time for a subwoofer available here in Canada with these kind specs that you won’t have to sell a kidney to afford. There are some comparable brands in the states like PSA or Monolith, but you get killed on shipping and the conversion from the US dollar. I also looked into doing a DIY project, but there would be no warranty if anything failed.
In comes the Tonewinner D8000 pro. I put an order in with Aamir and received it within a week. This thing has an insane amount of headroom and plays very loud if needed. I moved things around a bit in the home theater to find the best spot. Tried the various eq modes (Normal, Deep and Strong) as well as in the sealed mode with the provided port plugs. Ran room correction on my AVR and then did the usual tweaking with my mini dsp 2x4, umik-1 and room eq wizard software. I was able to squish the peaks down with eq to get it to measure flat down to 9hz, and it still had enough headroom to play well! Now I’m considering the possibility of getting a second one or maybe a d9000 as a near-field for behind my chair to add even more tactile response. I’m very happy with the Tonewinner app. This thing is heavy so it’s nice to not have to get up out of my chair and in get in behind the subwoofer every time I need to tweak something.
I must also say that dealing with Aamir at Summit Hifi has been a pleasure. He definitely cares about the customer and is always quick to respond.
